Behavior Level

Tension Reduction: A decrease in physical and emotional energy that occurs after a person has acted out, characterized by the regaining of rationality.

 

         Patient will regain emotional/physical control

         They will be remorseful and apologetic

         Staff should negotiate a contract with the person to decide on alternative behaviors

         Return control to the person who acted out

Staff Attitude/Approach

Therapeutic Rapport:  An approach used to re- establish communication with an individual who is experiencing Tension Reduction.  

By going through the process of Therapeutic Rapport, we are better able to build relationships with the individuals in our care.

 

         Staff will regain emotional/physical control

         Review facts of incident and document-patient’s chart, HAS report, post-vention

         Review staff response to crisis, look for ways to strengthen staff response if needed

         Agree to any changes

         Provide control back to patient

         Treat patient in a non-judgmental manner
