Restraint Standards: One facet of patient safety relates to injuries that may result from use of devices to restrain patients. While it is frequently believed that use of restraints prevents fall injuries, studies have shown that this is not the case. The Joint Commission and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) formerly known as Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA), have issued new standards to ensure patients' rights that involve key patient safety aspects referred to under "restraints and seclusion." | ||
